Caterpillar 3208T in a Dodge Ram frame...
So... i had a N14 Cummins, and traded it in for a rebuilt Cat 3208T with 140 work hours on it...
My inventory contains, a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500HD frame, a 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually Cab, Bed, Fenders and everything to put together a truck....
First question is, can i use the SAE transmission plate off a 5.9 Cummins and therefor put a NV4500 or NV5600 behind it?
Can i fit this motor in the frame without too much trouble ?
Will this be a rocked out truck OR WHAT, and how much horsepower could this make if i bomb it ?
This is a 325bkW version... wich makes it 450 horse or so...

I also forgot to mention, i have axles from a Dodge Ram 5500 Dump truck... not sure what ratios they have. but i think they are 3.55s

I've seen 3208's stuffed under the hood of several late 70's Ford pickups, so I'd imagine that it should theoretically fit in the Dodge. It will definitely take some fabbing; probably a new engine and transmission crossmember for sure. Most 3208's I've seen are SAE#2 bell pattern, and I don't think an adapter plate off of a Cummins will bolt to the CAT. My guess is either a CAT-to-NV4500/5600 plate will need to be fabbed, or find a NV style SAE#2 bell, if they even exist. I would venture to say that using a medium duty SAE#2 bell'd transmission would be your better bet...especially if it came from behind a 3208 to begin with. You may just have to do that with a divorced t-case if you are wanting 4x4.
My dad used to run 3208's in his rig truck and his biggest complaint, other than aspirating it with oil one time and scattering the crank, was seeping head gaskets. If you want to make good power, I would probably suggest looking into decking the block and heads and maybe see if there are upgraded head bolts/studs for it to keep boost in (assuming you are turbo).
Sounds like a sweet build though. I loved the sound of those kittys!
