N-14 Problems
Hi my names Mark, and this is my first post here......
I have a 5/99 Volvo with a N-14 Cummins vin#4v4nd4jj4yn233908
came into shop with cyl 3 and 4 skipping, checked harness with noidlite and have a good strong flashing pulse. i was kinda leary about changing 2 injectors in the same head but i did.. sure enough, the skipp was still there. Customer said it has been skipping for a long time.. so i removed the head, and the valves were burnt and worn, so i installed a rebuilt head, then reinstalled the 2 new injectors.. after all that 3 and 4 are still skipping. so i swaped 3 and 4 injectors with 1 and 2 well the skipp followed, now 1 and 2 are skipping..
whats the chances of getting 2 bad injectors? i called Cummins they sent me 2 replacements, installed them in 1 and 2 i STILL have the skipp.... i checked all plugs on the injector harness, and all have a good strong pulse... that should eliminate the computer and harness........

The electrical side seems to be doing its job. I have gotten a few bad remanufactured injectors, but never had a brand new one be bad out of the box. This one has me stumped. I'll do some digging and see what I can find. We haven't had a N-14 in the fleet for a long time now...

One thing I forgot to mention, your noid light test will check ok, but the injector will not fire if the return wire has a less than ideal connection. Perform the shake test all the way down the harness. I know this doesn't explain why the skip followed, but it will rule out some other possible problems. What resistance reading do you get at the suspect solenoids?

if you are moving injectors around and the skipping is following the injectors, it is injector problem.
I had an NTA 855 do the skipping but never left the cylinder when swapping injectors, it was the injector sleeve not machined properlly and the injection tip protrusion was way off, had to put in new sleeves and cut, fixed my problem.
TRUCKWENCH1, I was thinking that as, there is tourqe specs for the injector, if memory serves me right, should be 10 -12 ft lbs
