Bucks and sputters get service engine light
Hi all, absolutely awesome and valuable site. New to diesels and I have an early 99 7.3 powerstroke. A week ago getting on the highway got a bad buck (misfire?) check engine light came on but kept going. At destination shut truck off, returned a little later started it no light and ran fine. Week later it did it again, bucked, check engine light on and felt like it was skipping. Got home, turned off truck, restarted a little later ran fine no light. We are in the dead of winter and both times were cold starts not plugged in but didn't happen until it warmed up. I treat with Howes (honey for diesel) Any ideas? Thanks

Do you have any dead spots in the pedal?
First thing I would do is check for DTC codes. If you don't have an OBD II scanner then drive it to your nearest parts store (autozone/advance auto/checkers etc etc) and they will scan it for free

no, no dead spots and I have an OBDII and last time it did this I got home shut it off and went in to get the code reader. When I came back out there were no codes. This is part of the odd thing the two times it did this I got the engine light and after I shut it off and restarted it was reset. i thought once you got the light it had be be reset with a reader.
