COLD START PROBLEM
Hi everyone,
Hope someone can help with this. I live in North Dakota and lately getting down to below freezing. My truck will do the normal glow plug warm up and when I turn the key it just cranks and cranks until I release key. I then do the glow plug arm up and turn key and will start but when it does it emits a burst of black/gray smoke from the exhaust with a heavy diesel smell? It is doing that on a regular basis now, and during the fall (above freezing) to 60 degrees it would do it but not very often (I could days or weeks before it would do it again). I just now found the cord for the freeze plug, so I will try that overnight. I would appreciate any help you can give and thanks

Have it tested your glow plugs or the relay to the glow plugs might be malfunctioning. then there is the possibility that the valve cover gasket that connects the system to the glow plugs might be giving some problems. if you need anymore info do PM me.
