cycled the plugs twice and tried to start twice...

This is getting old

 

i'm a dodge man but try unplugging the batterys and leave key on for 15 min to clear everything,turn key off, reconnect batterys hope this helps

 

I am tempted to buy a programmer that doubles as a code reader and see if I can diagnose this deal...

 

highly doubt it's throwing any codes, it's a 7.3 with I don't know how many miles, but i'm assuming over 100k and they're not known for wanting to start in the cold either, maybe the HPOP is bad, but if it is you're not going to be able to know that with what a programmer/scan tool is telling you, you'd need a real scan tool that can give you the pressures when cranking or while running, something isn't functioning properly, but there's not a lot you can do about it unless you wanna start throwin money at it and then you have to ask yourself if putting a new pump on is worth it when electricity is a relatively cheap solution and it's easier on the starting system anyway to have the truck plugged in, an old neighbor of mine had a 99 7.3 and it wouldn't fire under its own power if it was 48 degrees or below that, and he dumped thousands into the whole starting system, new injectors, HPOP, multiple sets of glow plugs, tried different brands and everything, and new batteries a few times

 

I agree on the programmer deal..

I have found several ODBII systems that are run on the computer that can show the pressures and such... May consider those...

It may be an issue of age, however I know not all 7.3's act this way, so I want mine fixed..

and an update...

so hooked the batteries to a charger set at 6 amps for about 12 hours, dropped that to 2 amps for another 6...

Turned the key to cycle the plugs, and then unhooked the charger

got in the truck, and fired her right up...

was 28 degrees... still had a stutter in the throttle response, but started...

Sounds like new battery time...

 

get the biggest CCA batteries you can fit in there

 

just put in dual 1000 cca...

I will know tomorrow morning!

does it still turn over quick or is the starter maybe going and not turning it over quite as fast as it should?

 

the other night it got 27 degrees and i forgot ta plug it in and it started just fine with no problems, im running rotella oil and i havent put any glow plugs or anything like that in it, it kinda sounds like your fuel is getting too thick, have you added diesel addative?
