05 f-450 Tank delaminating
I have a 2005 f-450 bought in November of 04 that was a cab and chassis when i bought it. It has 65000 miles on it. 6.0 diesel.
A few weeks ago i was driving pulling a trailer. While getting on the highway i lost what felt like 75% of the power of the truck. Limped the truck home about 10 miles. Changed both fuel filters and the truck fan fine for about 6 miles and started doing the same thing. Got home looked at the fuel that came out of the frame filter housing and there were silver flakes in the fuel.
So now the truck is at the dealer and they have given me a estimate to fix the problem:THe fuel tank is delaminating whick caused it to send particals up into the pump, which cloged and caused low fuel pressure and bad injectors and so on. New fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel sending unit, 3 injectors but all could need replacing, and a entire cleaning out of the fuel system . $4300 I know there is some other small parts but cant think of off hand,
I have now read that this is a big problem with these trucks and i have not found one thing saying that ford is doing anything about the tanks delaminating even though it is seen in 1000's of trucks.
Has anyone heard of ford covering any of this out of warranty, just does not seen right that i need a new fuel tank on a less the 6 year old truck?
Does this price from the dealer sound crazy, or is it in the ballpark?
I just feel like this is total BS that this is happening on a truck that is not that old.
Thanks in advance!!
