Default 96 PSD Died and won't run

Hey all. I have a 96 PSD with a 5 SPD trans. I am having some very serious problems with the truck lately. I'll just start from the top of whats been happening. About a month ago I was taking the truck camping and while I was driving up there is started acting up on me about the time I got to the camp spot. What it was doing was kind of lurching going down the road. It would only do it at a real light throttle and light load at first, and would clear up when I mashed down on the pedal. But then it got a lot more violent and I ended up getting towed home. Well when I started trouble shooting to find out what was wrong, I took my IPR off thinking maybe it was dirty or something.

Well I found a small dent in the shaft that sticks out of the back of the IPR that was hanging up the piston inside. So I got a new IPR and all was great. I got it fixed and running about 2 weeks ago. Well I am going to college starting this Monday and I drove about 150 miles up here to Meridian Idaho which is where I am now. Well today I was driving the truck in town and it started doing the same symptoms as last time, but it was much more violent and died on me almost immediately after the symptoms started and wouldn't start back up. So a guy pulled me off the road and to a parking lot where the truck sat several hours while I was waiting for my uncle to come get me.

When he got there to tow me home we cranked it just to see if it would start and it did, enough to get me turned around for him to tow me and then it died again. So we went ahead and started our way back and we were going around a sharp corner so in order to help me turn I put it in gear so I could have power steering and the truck started back up when I did that. It almost ran the whole way home, I just let it idle while my uncle was towing me. It eventually died on me again.

What I am wondering, could my new IPR I put in 2 weeks ago be bad? I bought it from Ford so it should be good quality I think. If so is there any way I can test it or something to find out if that's it? Or is there something else way different? Any help at all would be great! I'm supposed to start driving to college Monday and now I don't have a vehicle....

Also, If there is any one on here around Meridian Idaho that could help I would sure appreciate it! You can hit me up on here or call me at 208 948 5822

Thanks!

Okay so I've got an update after working on the pos (oops...did i mean psd) all day. Well my dad sent me my old solenoid up here and it got here today so I went ahead and put that on my IPR. Then once I got that done I went to start the truck, I turned the key on, then went out to make sure everything was out of the way so I could start it and I heard this weird buzzing sound. I found out it was coming from the glow plug relay. So I turned the key off and went to checking on it.

I tested somethings and it acts like it has a bad ground. It's a new relay so I'm not too worried about it being bad its self. So I went to checking my grounds thinking that if the glow plug relay has a bad ground what if my computers in the truck have bad grounds too. Well I did find a few bad ones, got them all cleaned up and good again and cleaned everyone that I could find. Then I buttoned the truck back together and tried the glow plugs again and the relay still buzzed.

So I took off the wire going to the glow plugs to keep from hurting the relay and I decided to try the truck to see if I might have fixed it. Well it started and I ran it for about 30 minutes with the hood shut to see if I could get it hot to see if it would quit again. It ran fine the whole time, I haven't taken it out for a drive yet for fear of it dieing on me again. My uncle is going to be back later tonight and when he gets here I'll test drive it and if it dies again he can come get me.

A few questions that I have right now are, does anyone have or know of a wiring diagram I can get a hold of for one of these trucks? I'd like to trace my wires and make sure I got all of the grounds cleaned up. I would also like to see if I can use it to figure out whats wrong with my glow plug relay. Also does anyone know what happens when a PCM or IDM goes out? Can they give the symptoms my truck has and act up when it gets hot or something? And is there a good way to test them to see if they are bad? And how do I test to see if they have the right voltage to make sure I have good connections everywhere. Any other ideas are always helpful!

Thanks!

Do you know what types of tests and troubleshooting you guys went through to find out that the ECM was bad? I would like to find out how to test them so I could see if that's my problems....

Thanks for all the help and ideas guys, found out what was wrong with my truck finally. I found a very nice Powerstroke Tech, the guy was awesome! Ran tons of diagnostics and ended up fixing my truck and checking a whole bunch of other stuff out for me for 20 bucks. If anyone is ever in Idaho and needs someone hit me up and I can gladly give you his number.

Anyways he took off my CPS plug and was looking at it, well turns out that the prongs in the plug were all spread out on the female side, so he took some small picks and pushed them all back to where they were touching and tight, sprayed some WD-40 to clean them up and the truck fired right up and hasn't had a problems since. Hope this helps someone in the future.
