Default E4OD blown

Taking off from a stop, got up to about 5mph and boom! Pulled over, looked under the truck and the front u-joint in the rear drive shaft had snapped. Got towed home. Went and got another u-joint and put the drive shaft back on. Started the truck up and put it in gear, didnt move. When I put it into both reverse and drive, it felt like it was put into gear, but the truck wouldnt move. I tried 4wd also and still nothing. Going to drain the fluid tomorrow morning to see whats up there. Can anyone help me out?
CSIPSD said possible the center support or forward drum. Input?
Thank you

I hate those E 40D's. I have gone thru 4 of them on my 1990. I was told because my truck has an aftermarket Banks turbo they can't handle the torque. I now always keep the overdrive off when ever I tow (which is always). When my tranny would go out it would leak alot of fluid. You may have another problem unless you were in 4 wheel drive when it happened. then someone else out there will have something to say, mine was never in 4 wheel drive when they blew.

When it was still alive, I would put it in gear and it would rock forward for drive, and backwards for reverse. After replacing the u-joint, doesn't rock at all, but when I put it in gear, I can feel "movement" in the floor, and I had someone look at the driveshaft and it moves a little bit. Not much. But then nothing else.

I was not in 4wd and it is not leaking any fluid at all. Thanks for the replies. Keep posting

might have snapped the chain in the transfer case somehow and it is all bound up around the main sprocket, I have seen it a few times on chevys ( all this is providing you have a chain drive t-case)

Drained the transfer case first. A few very small shaving, but didn't seem like anything concerning. Drained the transmission after, no shavings or anything at all. Dropped the trans pan next, and didnt see much except for one area in the pan where there was a small "mush" of metal shavings.
What do you guys think?

The small "mush" (if it's by a magnet I assume) is normal wear on an automatic transmission. I'm not really big on the E40D's, but I do know a bit about transmissions. I've torn one apart, and when I think about it, it could be the forward drum.

Ok, well is the transfer case locked up or in Nuetral?

I doubt the input shaft failed, I can see the center support, thats why we put the Suncoast one in all the E4OD and 4R100 transmissions we build.
When shifting from drive to park does it slip right into park or does it grind? OD light flashing?
