Default 01 dodge cummins smoking??

I have an 01 dodge dually 2wd and it is smoking a little bit of whitish and blueish smoke when i crank it but when it warms up it doesnt smoke it has 210,000 on it and i think it may be blowing by too much i was just curious if the truck is blowing by would it smoke going down the highway? it is blowing quite a bit ot of the blow by tube but i just am not sure how much is too much and i have read of several people saying vaccum pump could cause this is that true or is that just optimism i figure i need a new motor. and it has great power and seems strong though it also needs an injector pump

Sounds like an injector getting weak. Could also be rings leaking a little in 1 or 2 cylinders.

i noticed you said it needs a new injector pump how do you know its bad? because a bad IP will cause white smoke as well

If the rings are not real bad it will clean up while driving. Since the compustion temps are hotter it burns all the fuel, unlike at idle it don't have enough compression to burn the fuel completly. Does it start smoking at idle right after driving it? or just when cold?

some times it will puff a lil smoke when idling but not often the injector pump is bad it is causing it to miss and die sometimes im about 90% sure it is out too i just am trying to decide if the motor is shot too or should i invest in fixing the pump i think im gonna take it to a dealership and let them run a compression test and make sure it is not something else causing the blow by what it is i bought this truck for 2000 dollars and it is in perfect shape body and interior they just didnt have a title buit i got one for it and now im just trying to get it right without ending up with a bunch of money in it im at 5700 now after the fromt end and leaking seals

Thats a good idea to have a compression test done and then go from there. Does sound like the IP is bad.

210k on the engine is not necessarily much at all. Don't know where you live, but the dealership is the LAST place you want to take your truck. You should search around and find a decent diesel shop in your area, they are all over the place. It's worth a few hours drive time to see someone who truly knows these trucks inside and out. Will cost you dramatically less in the long run. Good luck!

Have you checked for codes at all? You can read some codes in the odometer window by turning the key on-off-on-off-on (without going to the start position). Any codes will be displayed. It's a good place to start.
