funky brake problem
hey guys im doing the brakes on my 86 bronco i got. i know its not a diesel but bear with me.
the front calipers were spongy and wouldnt bleed out right when i got it, so i put new calipers and pads on it and turned the rotor. i also noticed a small crake in the hardline that went from the delivery valve to the passenger front wheel well. so i installed a new hardline from the delivery valve to the passenger side. (it was just a hardline from napa that i bent and put in) and a brand new rubber line on the passenger side.
as i was bleeding it, i noticed it was shooting up fluid out of the master everytime my wife hit the pedal. but after investigating a little bit, i realized that it was when she was letting off the pedal it did that. everytime she would start to take her foot off the brake, it was a pressurized stream coming straight out of the top of the master cylinder. i thought maybe the master's plunger got jacked up and was doing something wrong, i put a brand new master on it and the same exact thing happened.
is it possible the booster gone bad? or any other ideas? ive done tons and tons of brake jobs and never once have i seen this happen before.

You still have air trapped in the lines. The beat way to bleed is to pressure bleed from the caliper back toward the master cylinder. Does it have antilock brakes? If it does unless you bleed backwards there are special bleeding procedures to follow. I made a pressure bleeder out of a piece of 4 inch PVC pipe and some brass fittings. You have to use low pressure between 5 and 10 PSI. If you want I could take a picture of my bleeder.

i dont know if it has abs or not. i just got the thing a couple days ago. ive bled systems with abs before d never encountered this problem before. do i absolutely have to have a pressure bleeder? theres gotta be a way for the average joe to do it id assume

You might be able to do it without the pressure bleeder but it would make things a lot easier for you with one and you would have a good tool for the next brake job you do. I built mine with hardware store parts for almost nothing.

Special procedures apply only if you have ABS. Should bleed like any other hydraulic brake system. I'd bet you could find a local shop to use their power/pressure bleeder on it for you for real cheap. That's assuming you can get it to the shop safely...

have 0 brake period, when i press the pedal, its flat, and when i let off, it shoots fluid back up the top. i cant even bleed the stupid thing its like it has no pressure, even when i get a stream shooting out the back, when i crack it loose, it doesnt even blow out it kind of just like squirts like it isnt building pressure very well

a pressure bleeder is just a tank that you can put brake fluid in and pressurize it then hook a hose from a valve on the bottom of the tank to the bleeder screw on the caliper. The pressurized fluid goes in the bottom and forces air out the top through the master cylinder. I built mine from a piece of pvc drain pipe and put a small drain valve on the bottom to hook my hose to. I used a tire valve with pipe threads to put air in the tank. You can use a bicycle pump to pressurize it. the valve on the bottom controls the flow into the caliper. I have been trying to figure out how to attach a photo to show how I made mine but I can e-mail it to you.
