Default 7.3 IDI wont start

Guys, New here to the Forum and needs some help. Truck will not turn over. One battery says 14.2 volts the other states 12.7. When i turn the key to acc the voltage guage stays at zero the it clicks and shows the voltage. Then my glow plug controller constantly starts clicking and the voltage guage jumps around. When i try to start the truck wont even turn over. I have read it may be the cables so i check them (they were good). Could it be the glow plug controller or a bad GP???

My wait for engine light does not stay on very long either.

Please help

The fact that you have 2 different battery voltages tells me you have either cable or terminal connection problems. The batteries are wired in parallel so they should read the same voltage even if one is bad. The grounds might be bad at the block , dirty and corroded battery terminals or a bad connection at the starter solenoid terminal. Make sure all your connections are good before going any farther.

Default Check all battery conections

I took apart and cleaned all the battery connections , now my voltage is the same on both batteries at 12.5 . Thanks for the help. Now when i turn the key to start it, the starter constantly clicks while turning the motor very slow ( almost like it is jammed up) but the motor still turns very slow.. Could this now be a bad starter, bad starter relay or a battery issue somewhere?/

I was going to say the starter relay on the passenger side fender. Cheap part, only $10 at VatoZone but, if the starter is actually turning over, then it might be fine.

Try jumping the solenoid with a screwdriver to see if the starter works and its not anything in the ignition system besides possibly the ignition switch on the steering column.

This is what is looks like, its the solenoid on the far left of the picture.

I agree with Whit. Most of the time when they turn over slowly and the solenoid clicks it is a battery problem. You could try charging them first to see if it helps but new batteries is probably the best solution. Sometimes a worn starter can do it but the batteries are most likely the trouble.
