Default something wrong in the front axle.

I have 2 problems. The truck is only getting 14-15 mpg. Usually gets 19-21. Opened a thread before on that. Second, my 4wd light keeps flickering off and on till i get rolling. What i have noticed is that when i turn the truck to the left, 4wd light comes on and stays on till i have been moving forward for a bit. When i turn to the right, either the light goes out or if its not on, it doesnt come on. its not feeling like a wheel bearing/hub assemblie issue. had them both go out on me before and they didnt do this. Also, when i first start out i can barely hear and feel a little grinding coming from the front end. Does anyone have any idea what is causing all of this? im going to double check the hubs in the morning. Then im going to spin each wheel to see if the front driveshaft moves. If one side moves it, whats wrong with the axle? Please guys i reall need help. Im afraid if i keep driving it i might burn up the whole axle.

Technically you have no hubs. Its a drive flange at the wheel and a center axle disconnect on the passenger side axle tube.

Does the truck operate normally in 4x4? I am thinking you have some wire chaffing going on, 4x4 indicator is sensed off the transfer case if memory serves.

i know technically there isnt any hubs. the truck operates fine in 4x4. no issues. What about the vacum actuator on the axle itself? i was looking under the truck and i noticed i could move that actuator back and for quite easily. is that normal or is that a sign of something?

With the truck running it should take an act of god to move that with out changing it inside the cab.

ok even with the truck running i can still wiggle that actuator up and down. my 4x4 works fine so is it the actuator thats bad?

put a new actuatuor in. works fine now. fuel mileage is back up to normal. tightened everything down a little too much i think and i broke the 4wd indicator switch. oh well. just another thing to fix.
