i'd put in a 12v and call it good, and never have to worry about it again

 

If it was my truck that would be a real option but it belongs to my boss and I don't think he would have a sense of humor about throwing the money away that he already spent replacing the bad engine. Our other delivery truck is a 92 dodge 12v and although the body leaves a little to be desired it never fails to start before turning one full turn and has 1.3 million miles on it.

 

when you get the money i would deffinetly do injectors. now just curious, the fuel lines where they enter the head, they have those little fittings that connect to the head, there are screens in those fittings, did you replace the fittings?

the one on the driver side should be in the front of the head behind the altinator bracket and the one on the passenger side should be right in front of the downpipe in the back of the head.

 

The used engine we got was from a 99 so everything on top had to be switched. The turbo and intake pipes are bigger on the 02. I had the fuel pipes off, cleaned the fittings and replaced the fitting seals. I would think a problem with the screens would show up at highway speeds or under heavy loads but not only under cold start situations .

 

ok well funny thing is i just got an 02 7.3 in at work, it had bad injectors and some other problem that i dont know what it was but for some reason my employer sold him a new motor and i ended up doing the swap. the motor got new injectors and glow plugs and rubber gromets on all the fuel and oil lines. but i didnt replace the fittings not knowing about the screens, so those got carried over as well. now last week that truck went to maryland and back and it had a slight skip and it sucked starting unless it was already hot.

so that problem wont just show up on heavy loads or at highway speeds, apparently it showed up all the time and that was the fix.

 

I did clean the fittings but I used the ones from the replacement engine not the ones from the old engine. I guess the are easy to pull out again and double check though.

 

i would deffinetly check those again before we dub injectors, could save you alot of money.

yes it probably is but still i dont think it would hurt to look at the fittings, they're the two things that havent been changed so it might be worth a look.

 

I checked the screens again and they are clean so injectors are a likely suspect. They will have to wait until the summer dive season when more money is coming in. I guess it gets left plugged in for now.
