Default speedometer not working

Driving to work this morning and I hit a bump and it pretty much shut off it registers about 5mph when I'm doing 50 or so. I'm pretty rough on this truck so it surprised me that a little bump in the road would make it quit but who knows. I don't know how these work in these trucks where do I start.

They are electronic you might start with the vss they are in the rear diff you can ohm them to test them if I remember right but not sure on that. They usually crack inside the diff so if you take it out be careful when pulling it out because you will end up pulling the diff to get it out. It could also be the wiring to the cluster or even a cluster. Just takes some diagnosing in those. A scanner with a data stream will give you a idea of whether or not he vss, wiring and computer is ok or not. If the scanner shows a mph then its the cluster. if not then it would be either the vss, wiring or computer. Hope this helps.

Ya it does I just changed the fluid this weekend so maybe that had somethin to do with it. The speedometer is going up to about 5 then it bounces around 5-10 slowly and won't go over

I changed the fluid sunday then drove it home from my father in laws. Did some really heavy towing monday didn't drive it tuesday and on the way to work wednesday it quit working when I was almost to work 15 miles into the drive. I got about 60 miles on the new fluid before it quit working. I've been doing a little research seems a lot of people say their abs light comes on mine hasn't but maybe it's burnt out. My brake light is on but it's been on since I've owned the truck just never cared I think it's because my e brake cable is broke. Maybe the sensor has some junk on it and is just barely picking up a signal. speedo won't go over 10 and usually sits at 5-6. It drops to 0 when stopped so seems like something is trying to work.

Yea I would definatly try to easily remove the sensor and check it out and see if some junk got on the magnet by chance. Just becareful because they can break may have to wiggle pry alittle bit and maybe spray some penitrating oil in there the o-rings tend to stick and not let them come out without a fight. And as for the abs light yes if the VSS is not working then it would come on one way to tell if the bulb is good is just turn the key on and the truck will do a bulb check if I remeber right the brake, abs, cel, and cant remember what else will light for a sec and then go out that will tell you if the bulbs are ok.

I drove the truck and the speedo went up to 30 this morning kinda weird but I pulled the sensor when I got home and there is a chip out of it??? The gears were changed by the previous owner so maybe it was chipped then. Anyway maybe the oil and grease finally got to it with the new fluid. So I am ordering one since it is apparently broke anyway. I can see the metal inside of it.
