Default Bad fuel milage, too much oil, cracked injector body?

Ok guys I need help quick. I changed the oil in my truck and put the full 12 quarts in it. Well I checked the fuel milage and im only getting 14 mpg (hand calculated). So I decided to ask someone why it was so bad. I was told by a diesel mechanic buddy of mine that it could be a number of things, too much oil, injector body cracked, and something else. So I pulled the dip stick to see how much oil was in it. I it wayyy above the safe mark by at least an inch or an inch and a half. My buddy said that I could have a cracked injector body and its letting diesel into the oil thats why the oil level is high. If that is the case what the hell am I going to do? Is 14-15mpg right in these trucks stock with al my mods? Would I be able to smell fuel in the oil? I am royally pissed. All help is appreciated. Thanks.

cracked body or stuck open which will dilute the oil bad to the point that it cant flash off fast enough, you need to find out which injector is troubled and get it changed out....................you pull the codes yet???

Most accurate way is an injector kill test. You can do it yourself, just remove one of the wires on the injector. Do it just long enough to find the bad injector.

And just to toss this out, ways that shorten the life on common rail injectors: crappy fuel, not changing the fuel filter often (every 5,000-8000 miles), failing to drain the filter housing periodically, and extensive idiling.

Well they have 125k miles on them so im wondering but I dont let it idle really ever, just for the cold weather warm up and a little 30 sec cooldown after I drive it but thats it. I changed the fuel filter 500 miles ago and I get the best fuel in town so I dont think thats my problem. I will se what I can do. Thanks guys.

Forgot to add: too high or too low a rail pressure, and sometimes mileage. I noticed your running an aftermarket CP3 pump. How long ago did you install it??

Is there a way to just pull the injectors out and look at them myself without breaking or ruining something?
