Code PO254 and TST PowerMax3 On 98.5 Cummins
I recently bought a used TST PowerMax3 R45 chip and installed it this past Saturday. The guy I bought it from took it off his 99 24valve as I stood right there watching him do it. It ran fine on his truck as far as I understand and observed. I get it on my 98.5 24valve and drive about 50 miles and was just cruising down the road at 1800 rpm with the chip on. Out the blue the engine dies. We coast onto a side road and I turn the chip OFF and try starting the engine, spins fine but wont fire, do that 3x and finally the 3rd time I try it it pops right off and runs perfectly. At no time does the check engine light or any other warning lights come on. We think maybe my filter is partially plugged on my Airdog so the next day I change that. I then take the truck for a drive and run it with chip ON and seems to be ok. Today I take if for a longer drive up and after driving about the same amount of miles total it dies again. This time I was heading to a diesel shop with a friend to drop his truck off there. We get down there and the mechanic we know scans my truck and code PO254 comes up saying VP44 Fuel Valve Current TOO High. So we un hook the chips MAP connections and the chip box pig tail from the chip harness and I dove it back up to my friends place and back home no issues. I have owned the truck for well over 2.5 years and never once has it even as much as burped when starting or running. It has been the most dependable starting and running vehicle I have ever owned. And now it seems odd I have issue ONLY when the chip is in operation. I did call TST and talk to them about it, they only have one other time that code showed in their data base and they replaced the box and eventually resold it and it was a new box then mine so it wasnt mine.. They have no idea what would cause that code to appear and dont really think its the chip. Just seems strange it never acted up before and only when I have had the chip on.
I would like to know what issues could cause Too High of Voltage to begin with. That way maybe I can do some investigating on my truck and see if there is another issue going I dont know about that doesnt show up unless the chip is on. The guy at TST says their chips are connected to ground connections and doesnt see how the chip could cause issue.

My thought too is the chip. My understanding is the guy wants a Quadzilla so he can program it and wants to blow more smoke. Basically I was told he wants something he can play with more. He told me his Dad had it on his truck first and then gave it to him. I JUST talked with on another site and he said neither of them ever had problems with it. I was willing to take a chance on the chip cause another friend of mine knows this guy and his truck and said it always worked great. Also the fact I watch him take it off the truck I felt it had to be ok since he was using it currently.

I have nothing to update on this yet, I have gotten no helpful information to resolve this issue.
Seems odd I am the only person to ever have this happen to? Surely some one else has had this happen or some thing close.
