Default Old Man's stuck on a haul in FL in the 06...

Well he called me this mornin. Trucks running real rough, low/no power, white smoke on startup, rough idle. Now, it did this before he left, and I put on a new PPE lift pump... Seemed to clear it up for the 3 days before he left. I put in a new pickup tube (draw straw), spliced into the stock fuel lines with the PPE pump, and wired into the stock circuit (used the stock wires as the 12v switch source to the new relay).

Now, the old fuel pump and pickup screen had a nice coating of crap on the screen, and the tank had a little grit in it. So I had the old man throw in a new fuel filter when he was down there. He said that helped for about 100 miles, now its running like crap again. I'm gonna have him pull the pre-screen on the PPE pump, and check it, then possibly have him replace the fuel filter again. I'm worried it was driven for a long time with low fuel pressure and it wrecked the injection pump. Possible?

I gotta have him check the codes, he was stuck in traffic on I-95 near Miami when I called him, so he couldn't then obviously. The only mod to the truck is a Quad Mileage box, and I'd have him pull it, but I'm not sure he'd know how to. Keep in mind this truck has 250K miles on it already.

Anyone know of a good diesel shop in Florida (preferably near I-95) so they can check the rail pressure and fuel pressure? Anything else you guys think we should check? I don't know enough about the CR's to diagnose the thing at this point. I figured the stock lift pump had finally puked out (and I'm quite sure it had), so I thought the new pump would solve the issues but no luck.

Thanks for the help guys, sorry if its a long read.

Sounds like rotten fuel (algae issue). Need to get some biocide in the tank to clear up the algae.

I'd agree, except for the fact that its run at least a dozen tanks of fuel and still has this problem.

Once algae is in the tank, whole system has to be cleaned out.

Alright, I've done that once on a big ole tractor sticking a rag in the fuel line and blowing compressed air through it. How do I go about doing it on a truck? Will Biocide clean it out or just kill whats in there.

And then it'll burn it? With as much algae as was in the tractor, it wouldn't even fire.

So all I should have him do is pour it in and keep driving, then after he fills up again change the fuel filter?

Wouldn't hurt to pour some in the filter bowl as well.

I had the same symptoms with mine when I got a bad batch of fuel and had algae growing in the tank. Get you some Raycore Biocide and give it a healthy shot to start. Run about a half tank and replace the filter. Another two tanks and filter again. After that keep putting the recommended dosage on all tanks until the bottle is gone so that you are sure you got it all.

Well I told him to find some... Figured a parts store or big truck stop would have it. The turnpike service area didn't apparently. If I have anymore problems I'll let you guys know. And I'll post up if it solves the problem.
