Default lining up input shaft with pilot bearing

I've been fighting with this all evening/night and i really need to get it together tomorrow AM. I have a proper transmission jack but i can't get the damned thing to slide in. I can get the splines to start in the clutch grooves but I just can't seem to get the shaft in straight with the bearing, even with a spotter getting me lined up. Is there some trick to it? I'm having to do it on a slanted driveway which doesn't help but I'm really hoping there's some trick to make it work.

lots of wiggling...it should slide it if you can get the splines started...check them for burs and stuff like that

Your not alone my friend i have done the last two i had by myself, this last one took me 2 hours before it finally gave up and wiggled its way in. Juat double check it with the alignment tool and keep at it, it sucks but it will go, biggest thing it to keep it as level as you can with the engine, jack the engine up if you have to, you will get just keep at it and have a few cold ones will usually make things slide together.

as long as the clutch abn polit bearing is aligned right go get 2 lond bolts and use them to pull the trans in with easy but push and wiggle dont just use the bolts as you will bust stuff

X2 It usually helps to jack the front of the engine up. Do you have the new style or old style of NV4500? Also make VERY sure your clutch is lined up with your pilot bushing. If that alignemnet is off it will cause you a bunch of headaches. I fought with my 5600 for a long time and it turned out to be the clutch disk alignement. Once i fixed that it slid right in.

Yeah I don't know if I just got lucky the last couple times or if I'm having a problem this time. I'll bring it back down and check the alignment again. I'm heading for the hardware store in a few minutes to get some longer bolts, I forgot to bring mine down here.

Its the new style. Any difference there?

About the only difference you would have is the amount of clearance at the top. Which may or may not make it easier.

Word of advice, If you can't get the tranny to slid in far enough to use the stock bolts to draw it up SOMETHING IS FRICKIN WRONG!!!! I've more people screw stuff up by trying to force it.

Do you have an alignement tool? Or are you just trying to wing it? That usually results in more frustration than if you had just gotten the tool in the first place.

I always just buy a wooden dowel rod and cut it up into a few pieces and use it through the bolt holes to help line things up.

yes had alignment tool, did use some longer bolts to get it in, not pressing it but just to slide the top and sides in at even rates on my slanted driveway with POS rental jack. Fired 'er up and no nasty noises, still need to get the slave back on and double check tho.
