Default codes..truck is sick help

Hey all. I have a 1999 dodge ram 3500 ext cab 4x4 47re . If im driving down the road and stay at the same speed for a while then push the throttle to speed up...nothing. i have to let off completely then punch it and most of the time it cuts me off at 65 and starts slowing down. So. went to a local shop. put the scan tool on it. i have p0216 and p0252. and some other his wouldnt read...but from what i have read im guessing i need a vp44 and a lift pump. Any info would be great..I need my truck for work so i have to get it fixed soon.

Thanks ahead of time!!!!
Mike

P0216 is the VP44 death code. I'd replace the stock lift pump with FASS or Airdog. Also, install a fuel pressure gauge.

Ol Wilbill is right on the money. Its going to be $$ - your VP-44 just took a dirt nap. You probably need a new lift pump as well. Fuel pressure guage in the cab is a MUST on a second gen 24V.

Thanks guys!! Now just have to find a shop to put the new vp-44. Bit out of my skill range. I found one for $1,010. Do you guys know anything about a bd diesel lift pump. They go for about $275.00. Says they are good up to 600hp..I had an 03 then got an 08 and got rid of that thing fast!! This is my first 2ng gen and i have some things to learn.
On another note what exactly will a fass do. I know its way better than stock..well just about anything is .haha. Does it get rid of the factory lift pump?
sorry bout all the questions.. Thanks guys
Mike

Don't know anything bout the BD lift pumps... The FASS though.... Stands for Fuel Air Separator System. Basically filters out water and reduces air mixed in the compressed fuel. When you pump anything it tends too aerate so you are pumping air with your fuel rather then straight fuel. Less foam more power. Too bad bought your injection pump. Someone should have told ya all factory installed lift pumps in the second gens are A big gamble. The injection pump can only carry the whole system so long... Good luck.

Mike, be careful where you get the pump from - rebuilds vary in quality and some rebuilders dont replace all the parts.

AIRDOG, FASS, or Mitsua are by far, the best choices for lift pumps.

Make sure you get that fuel pressure guage as well.

Hmmm. Guess i should just spend the extra money on a fass. yet money is the thing. I knew the vp-44's had there problems. Guess its a chance i took. I have only had this truck 3 weeks. 117,000 miles on it now. the diesel site i get most of my parts from has a fass vp-44 package for a little over 1500.00. 1 year warranty on the vp and lifetime on the fass. If anyone knows of a better deal please let me know!!
Thanks a bunch

Ok. Up date. Found a local well kind of local shop. Certified!! 1 year warranty on vp's. 1100.00 and i guess i will bite it and get a fass put on and my fuel pressure gauge.
Guys thanks!! The owner of the shop said it's going to take a few days. They stay pretty busy. But after i get it back I will post how it's doing!
