Dodge Down in N.Dakota
Going west on I-2 hauling a fifth wheel. Suddenly it was like the tranny dropped. Felt like coasting, engine revved up, so let off pedal. Tried to give it gas, twice, no response, so put her in neutral. Still coasting tried to put back in drive, bad grinding noise, so back to neutral. Coasted down a little more, tried second gear, same grinding noise, so in neutral again. So off on the side of highway, left her running for lights. AAA can take ten yrs! Daylight came, checked fluid. It's fine, good color, no shavings but bubbles on dipstick?? Diesel mechanic in Grand Forks says it sounds like flex-plate maybe? Bubbles in fluid, I'm thinking something internal? Any ideas?

flexplate seems unlikely to me. I guess you could pull off the inspection cover and look. I'd say internal but I don't know. Best to get it to a trans shop before you mess more internals up.
Thats all I can give ya, hopefully someone else will chime in with more experience.
