Mikeball i would put gauge on pressure side to see how much fuel pressure you have before replacing any parts.put a t-fitting anywhere between transfer pump and head. 5-9 psi of fuel pressure sure sounds low if you have that much i would replace transfer pump than.a friend of mine had same problem on his semi truck and sometimes woudnt start and he had to shoot starting fluid to fire it up,but would do it any time it felt like it.in his case he had leaking injector.the way shop tested his, they put pressure in fuel line from pump to head and let it sit and was able to see pressure drop but dont know how they rulled out which one it was.i hope this helps you somehow and good luck

Ok i had the same problem a year ago with the same dahm truck. How many miles are on it? Your high side pump is bleeding by somewere most likely its in your injector. you have the injector itself and then the nozzle and theres a copper washer at the bottom of the nozzle usally they get F@@k up after a while badly.so what you have to do is. pull you main line. comeing from the tank to the motor start the truck run it till it drains completly and shuts off (that is idf you can get it started) pull the valve cover after if you can get the truck startedpull the first injector out disconnect the line going to the injector. take the center bolt out of the valve dont play with the adjustments unbolt the injector and take a thin wrench once you have the injector its a special thin wall wrench you can get a sears and un due the nut at the bottom of the injector there will be your nozzle and copper washer. have a feeing you have a cylinder or a few thats dumping too much fuel not allowing it to start allowing air in there . (watch out because sooner or later that motor isnt going to be able to take it anymore and its going to back fire and you wont shut it down had it happen to me exactly by what your saying is going on with your truck. do you smell diesel fuel sometimes after you get out after driveing it?

I put an air dog transfer pump on it. Fixed it!! I'm just glad it wasn't one of the injectors. Thank you for all of your help. If anybody makes it down to the Memphis area, hit me up. Mike

Air dog only fixed it for a few days. emailed boydsboy about thin walled wrench size. I have an injector laying on shop bench. I don't want to tear into it without all of the right tools. Plus I can't park it. Its my ride to work.

Don't run it with fouled injectors too long. May end up melting down a cylinder, which = about 10G's for an engine.
