truck is dead
I went to the store and when I came back out the truck won't even try to turn over. I have noticed a few times in the past I would really have to push the clutch really hard a couple times to get it to start. I think the start switch on the clutch is bad. Can I bypass it to get it home? any suggestions?
Thanks,
Steve

I know on my 97 and buddies 00 I just took the 2 wires on the saftey switch for clutch and cut them off the connector and wire nut them together. Its never acted up yet. just my 2 cents hope this helps

I'll try it. Thanks

I jumped the wires on the switch and it still won't turn over. Maybe the starter? It has gave me any problems though.

is it clicking or anything...if it aint clicking then it aint even gettin power to the starter, so you neutral safety switch is done...i dont know how to bypass them...if you find the power wire then i would say ground or complete the circuit and then you should be able to get her going

I'd say turn the key on, and then use a large screwdriver across the back of the starter solenoid, from the battery + wire to the starter + terminal...that should get it to start.

The neutral safety switch is a black/white wire that needs to be grounded to complete the circuit and this will completely bypass the clutch.
When you turn the key you should hear a click which would be the solenoid. If you don't hear this then it narrows down the field. It would mean one of the following is your problem.
1. Starter solenoid is stuck either open or closed. Tap it with somethin heavy to see if it let's go and try to start it again.
2. No power comin from the battery. The main ground is bad to the negative side of the battery, the battery or batteries are toast or you have a bad cable to the starter.
3. Ignition switch is bad.
Let us know if your gettin this click and we can go from there.
If you do try jumpin the solenoid with somethin make sure it has an insulated handle. IT HURTS.

1. see if your voltage is low
2. If its not, jump the solenoid with a screwdriver or w/e you have that won't hurt ya from the amperage.
3. If your sure you have sufficient power at the starter, give it a good smack in the *** with a hammer. Sometimes the gear reduction will bind. It sounds ghetto but thanks to a couple old guys I know it works.
this is assuming your switch isn't the prob. If your switch is bad, it *should* start by jumping the solenoid with the ignition on, I'm not positive though.

It sparks up a storm and looks nasty when you jump the solenoid but if you hold on it on there it will start it if that's the problem.

I jumped the starter and it fired up. Drove it home and tried to start it again and it's dead. Would that be the selenoid or the ignition switch? Thanks for the help guys!!!!
