1998 jetta tdi
I have a 98 jetta 1.9 tdi. had a small fire under dash, when fire started the key was off and the motor sterted to run. i unhooked the battery and it stopped. I have fixed the many wires that were burnt together and now it will not start. any help would be great!!!!!
thanks Daryl.
thanks Daryl.
I'm assumeing when the wires shorted out on each other the ecm most likly got fried along with said wires. A trip to the dealer would sort it out real quick... Welcome to DieselBomers as well.
That is what i thought also but there are no codes and i should of mentioned that it will run but i have to give it a little starting fluid(yes i know that isn't good). i have no fuel coming out of the pump to the injectors and good fuel coming into pump.
If the car ran b4 the fire I'm still gonna go with wires. But get a multimeter and see if there is power going to the solinoid to activate the plunger to open. Could still be ecm which I guessing would control the shut off valve.
Those cars are notorious for bad ignition switches, I would replace it and go from there. Also, on the firewall is a large fuse, more like a flat piece of pot metal, that's probably cooked as well.
Well buck you are correct. i put a switch in it this am and it started right up. Thanks to all that helped!!!!!!
