Power Service has a biocide that deals with such. Dump a little of that in the tank.

I kept it stored indoors,heated... normally it stays in an unheated garage always started fine those years the year I decide to treat it nice and keep it indoors heated I get a problem go figure.

It was harder then normal to start this year for some reason, I did add 45 gallons of fresh fuel wouldn't that help if the fuel was bad? all the fresh I mean.

I just found out about the whole algae thing about 6 months ago from a buddy who got it in his pickup he travels all over the country, is the algae only found in certain parts of the country?,,, I live in the midwest,,

All fluids are great, JUST really strange how this happened makes me think a critter did something but the buiding it was stored in is occupied and fairly new maybe 3 years old o it is pretty critter free..

thanks

that bio cide by power service works really really good, have extra filters on hand you will be changing it on the side of the road, been there done that,,

check your water temp sending switch its either a bad end or a bad sensor or transducer, dont be afraid to pull on the wires, this is usally the culprit,

Have had problems in the past with CAT engines in heavy equipment that sits for a while running like crap with no power, if it has a HEUI injection system on it. The high pressure oil rail will bleed off and have a huge air pocket in it,I have had to run some engines for over a half hour after installing a new HEUI pump or after it has set a long time to get all ogf the air out. best to have ET, which is CATS computer system that you hook up and check for codes and you can check injection actuation pressure, do solenoid click tests and cut out the injectors. If it is not a HEUI and is a MUI or EUI then I would check your fuel for algae, gelling, and change all of the filters, it could have messed up one of the sensors and something as simple as a fuel pressure sensor will cause the engine check light to illuminate and run crappy. Good luck

dang forgot about the useing engine oil as a hydraulic fluid now ya know where ford got it,yup gotta have ET on your laptop [ 750.00 ], and the communications adaptor [1,000.00 and up depends on hard wire or wireless] and you can only do limited stuff unless your a certified cat tech w/ the factory passwords and good luck w/the cat dealer

If the stop engine and check engine light came on, shouldn't run for maybe 15 sec after startup.

Default Algae I think!

Well I sure appreciatte everyones imput and trying to help this newbie out.

I think it may be algae, first time ever dealing with it but I took off the new filter and dumped it out and a bunch of little black particles are inside of it mixed in with fuel, Does everyone agree that this would be algae?

I am going to go and buy some algae remover,, and a few new filters.

how long does it take to get all this cleared up?

Thanks again I am glad I found this site I will have many questions coming about my duramax..

No I believe the little black particles are Ashphaltenes....:
