Default got the cummins running but has an issue

got the derge running this morning, primng the pump was a pain in the ***, started the breakin period out side the shop buy variating my RPMs untill she got warmed up, after the smoke went to normal color i got a little throttle happy right off the bat, bad idea timing slipped so far it wouldnt run. pulled the gear off, set the camshaft timing pin and the pump timing pid to what i thought was TDC, now it will start only if throttle is held 1/4 and idles way below 400RPM and smokes whiter than hell but after 2300RPM it goes away. Is this still a timing issue?

You got big injectors on a rebuilt engine??. Adjust the idle, and take it down the highway/freeway and see how it goes.

Due to the white smoke - I would say the timing is less than it should be. How much lift do you have on #1 delivery valve?

dont know we didnt adjust the timing that way, we used the timing pin at the rear of the timing case and the pin in the pump to set it, i know my timing was at 17 before it blew im thinking it might have to be returned to the same inorder to make it run right

seems to me you just need to adjust your idle up, it might not be burning all your fuel and if its idling at 400 you need to get it up higher, and that might clear up your smoke

It might be worth getting a delivery valve socket and metric dial indicator and check the timing via the plunger lift method. Thats the only way Ive seen it done so I cant help you much.

How far are ya from the Idaho guys? Should be someone around there that can loan you the socket.
