Default The motor broke

Here is what is happening. I ran my truck out of fuel about a week ago and haven't been able to start it since. I have bled all the lines over and over from LP to injector lines. I have replaced the filter and LP. My truck wont start unless I push the throttle all the way down and at full throttle it is only barely idling. I have been told it could be fuel shutoff solenoid but i checked it and the rubber plunger is fine. I believe the previous owner never emptied the f/w sep because I pulled the #6 injector and it had a rust red/green snot like substance all over the body and the holes were not visible due to soot. could it be that my injectors are shot? If so I have some Scheid 6x18's already on the way. Anyone know what else it could be? Perhaps if someone is in the San Diego(Coronado) area they could come take a look at it. That would be super sweet because it is my only mode of transport and I can't diagnose it. Thanks

Was it running fine before running it out of fuel?

NEVER run a diesel out of fuel - it just causes too many headaches.

I would look at the fuel shutoff solenoid first _ I am not familiar with the first gens - but does it pull up all the way?

If you are worried about the injectors, you could pull them (keep track of them of course) and have them tested.

This should get you looking in the right direction:

What pump is on it?

I would bet that the low fuel pressure/lack of lubricity damaged the pump.

Things to also check would be the pick up sock in the fuel tank since it has likely sucked up all the junk that was floating around in the tank, and change your fuel filter also.

It was running excelent before. It woud start on second crank at 14* with no heater. I believe I have the 160hp VE. The fuel shutoff is being properly energized but to prevent damage down the road, I'm going to install a shutoff cable.

Could it have somthing to do with the return system? I pulled it while it was running and it seemed to be bypassing too much fuel. I don't have a gauge though so I can't tell where the pressure loss is.

If you got junk coming out of the lines, more than likely your injectors are plugged. Only solution I can think of is pulling the injectors and having them cleaned. But IMHO, I'd have the injectors and the pump rebuilt.

I'm not going to spend money on my stockers, I've got some New Era 6x18 in the mail.

Just a precaution, the new injectors may take out the pump due to a higher pop off pressure. But by the sounds of how much trash went through the pump, it may already be dead in it's tracks.

I thought the injectors had the same pop? I got the truck running today but had to "rig" it. I forgot to index the throttle lever when I took it off so i played with it and turned up the full power screw. right now it runs but has some white smoke and hardly any power and the idle is like 1000. I don't have the tool to adjust the idle screw or else I would turn it down. My final diagnosis is that I am missing some pressure somewhere along the system. Either I can't pull it from the tank or I can't push it through the injectors without high rpm. Sorry for the long post. Thanks for all the help.
