Default charging

alt. is good .doesn't charge and no guages work on 98 dodge! Is it the pcm? The only way i get it to charge is by bootlegging the fields which would work but have no guages at all working.

We're going to need a little more info. to help you out. When did this start? What seemed to have triggered it?

search back in this section about 6-8 months ago I remember someone else blew something in a 2nd gen and it was a large underhood fuse and knocked out the cluster and the alternator was not charging, maybe not this section but 12v subforum

Could be pcm since that what regulates the alt output, could be grounds. How did you test the alt?

crank position sensor? If it goes out, then it wont charge and the computer acts like the truck isn't running. If you have a 12v then you can still drive around with no noticeable differences in power, but if it is 24v then you will definitely notice a difference.

did it just start out of nowhere, or did you notice the gauges acting up prior to complete failure?

this happened to me. there is a huge fuse called the fuseable link that you should check.
it makes the alternator circuit complete.
