hey guys and gals i have noticed that the last two months that my batt. lite is on constantly nad some times it is dim and others its brite. could this be that i have a bad batt. or is it the altanater? batts. are about a year old when i get time i think im going to take them in and get them tested. thanks

 

what voltages are you getting with the batt.

 

How much is the alt. charging while the truck is running? All connections/terminals clean?

 

The red batt light comes on when the signal wire on the regulator is grounded. This happens due to either a short in the signal wire to ground or a failing voltage regulator.

Get your alternator checked out.

 

im getting 14 volts on the guage in the truck thats after the glow plugs cycle

the alt semes to be charging fine but i will take it to a shop and have it checked.

what do you mean signal wire do you mean the turn signal? sorry if that sounds dumb but im not much on electical stuff.

 

The signal wire coming out of the alternator that controls the batt light.
