MY 92 DODGE RAN AWAY WHEN I WAS DRIVING IT WHY?
Well Hi all.
I have a krazy problem. Yesterday i was driving down the road, my 1992 dodge with a stock 5.9 had a miss or hick up a few times.( i thought that was puzzling at the time) Then it just TOOK OFF. it kept accelerated and the peddle had no response at all. So i turned the key off and the engine turned off, but when i turned it on it started right up with out engaging the starter?? so i got it off the road, and started it and it was a RUNAWAY still but i could turn it off. so i had it towed home, when i googled the symptoms i did not find any help. So i'm here to ask, (( WHY WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD DID IT JUST TAKE OFF, AND NOT RESPOND TO ANY THING I TRIED)). Help it is my only means of transpertation..
Thanks Mike

also this is a stock truck never had nothing done to it has all the factory safety caps on everything and has never been worked on. i bought it 2 yrs ago from a 89 yr old man who bought it brand new. I use it as a tow truck for boat and as a work truck and love it the way it is. also has a automatic transmission. and as i said this happened driving down the road. it missed a few times, then at about 65 mph. it took off. there was no response of the peddle, and only could turn off the key to stop it. yes engine was hot and yes turning key back on restarted it. so was towed home where it sits now tried every thing but nothing has changed it runing off wide open.
AND I NEED HELP PLEASE IT IS MY WORK TRUCK AND I CANT WORK WITH OUT IT, AND IS MY ONLY VEHICLE TO DRIVE.
so any ideas are great. and thank you
I'LL SNAP A PHOTO OF THE PUMP AND THE INFO ON SIDE OF IT FOR YOU THINGGUY65

i had thought this was the problem also, so i had taken the linkage off and check it. everything was fine. so i had fallowed by removing the top of the pump to check the inside spring was still attached and working all seems fine and hooked up and working fine. i've checked as far as that. top is still off and i shell place it all back together. i have also removed the intake to turbo piping as some one had said it might be a oil leak in turbo. the truck is a gen 1. but does have a intercooler. so i unhooked it at the intake manifold.
At this point i have found nothing out of the ordinary, as in something broken,or apart. I have ordered a service manual from dodge, for there are none from other sources on my truck for its yr. also have check the measurement of the fuel needle even knowing its been never touched and the factory safety cap was there for the possible vibration movement. but it was also good. as i had said in my profile. i'm a retired ASE master tech. But from automotive, not diesel repair. so i know some things just not the area of diesels.
