Default 7.3 idi woes

Hi, My 7.3 idi turbo diesel is not running very well. It smokes real bad when first started in the morning and has what i could describe as like a miss fire like in a gas engine and a lope. I have replaced the injectors and done (2) fuel return line kits with caps, I just dont know what else to look at as I'm a newbie to the diesel world and the truck has over 284,xxx miles on it . Please help as this is my daily driver !

But I think it smells like fuel from the exhaust that comes in the cab and my fuel mileage is horable.

Hey Darrell try posting this over on the Ford section also. maybe we can get some of the Ford gear heads to help out!!
Ford Powerstroke 99-03 7.3L - Diesel Bombers
Do you have a lot of pressure at the vent tube off the valve cover or out of the dip stick?
I would think its just an injector but driving on a leaking injector is bad news. It washes all the oil from the cylinder and scores pistons, rings and cylinder over time.
Has Trevor looked at the truck what does he thinks happening?

Thanks jet a fuel ! the last couple days the truck has been starting and running good ? I guess it does not like the weather we have had in the 30"s. now that its warmmed up all seams to be good , Except now my over drive light is flashing on my gear shifter and the tranny wont shift right ?

Ok so I deleated the breather system on the driver side valve cover and put a brand new filter on it and 2 days later it is black and soaked in oil . What gives ? and the 2nd picture was of when it was smoking bad.

have you tried any oil additive to clean up the inside of the engine, sure looks like a stuck ring or something.
Is there excessive pressure/smoke from the dipstick tube when you pull the stick while its running?

My old cat loader does that when its cold if I let it warm up first no problem. But run it while its cold and she smokes hard. I put some lucas oil additive and its been much better. Not perfect but better.

Ok so today me and my brother checked it out while its running and there is alot of smoke and oil comming out the driver side valve cover breather and then I pulled the oil fill cap off and plenty of smoke comming out of it , The i pulled out the dip stick and within a few seconds oil came pouring out the tube so I think the motor is wore out ?
