2003 Ford F350 HD
Omg I am at the end of my patience with this POS!
Truck does not like to run, it takes 20 min before you can drive it, no power Fuel filter(s) replaced in August 2007, installed new batteries in January 2008, Altenator assy replaced January 2008, rear diff serviced June 2007, auto trans serviced June 2007, replaced EGR valve, map sensor, fuel water sep filter, fuel filter(s), air filters May 13, 2008 and serviced auto trans May 22, 2008.
May 13 2008 it was scanned for codes (P006A, P0401). Started ok, glow plugs all working, injector buzz test all okay.
Truck is hanging before changing gears, truck does not want to idle with any consistancy, truck requires lengthy warm up period before it is driveable.
Ideas anyone????

Oh and it's a 6.0 not 7.3. I'm a Cummins so I forget little Ford things like this. teehee

P0401 will be an egr code which is most likely a plugged up egr valve (very common on these trucks) and the code is found in just about every 6.0 there is . The plugged egr valve can cause performance issues but I'm not familiar with the P006A. I will check into it and get back with ya.
Edit:
After searching the p006a was most likely related to the p0401. Since the EGR valve has allready been replaced those two codes should be eliminated. The truck needs to be scanned again for any other codes and fuel pressure needs to be checked along with the injector connections and engine harness wiring for bad connections or chaffing. These would be my basic pre checks to start off with.

06-24-6***6.0L - BUILT ON OR BEFORE 9/29/2003 - DTCS P006A OR P132B - LACKS POWER, SURGE, OR FLUTTER AFTER FIELD SERVICE ACTION 06E17
I would print this out and take this back to the shop where the work was done. To do these steps you will need a scanner.

Well it's back at a different dealership and this one says they know exactly what the problem is. Got my fingers crossed and I even put a copy of the attachement you gave me on the seat when I dropped it off. teehee I hope they don't think I am trying to tell them how to fix it. Waiting game again.

and if it doesn't and ya wanna sell it cheap, lemme konw..
good luck with the fix -- I'd say just block off the EGR/do a delete and go from there - no more worries!

So they say that it needed the FCM reprogrammed and the VGT reprogrammed. I have no idea what either is but they say it runs great now. Will pick it up today, cross fingers and hope that it actually runs properly again.

I believe the FCM stands for Forward Control Module which reads a bunch of sensors and then communicates to the ECM (engine control module).
The VGT stands for Variable Geometry Turbo.
The VGT stands for Variable Geometry Turbo.

When the Alternator went it took out the batteries, is it possible that this event caused the FCM, VGT to need reprogramming due to power surge / short / other?

I consider 20K cheap what do you think cheap is.
