Okay guys I have a 1995 dodge cummins 12 valve I was pulling a empty gooseneck the other day and turned on my road then she started poping and blowing white smoke and sounding like a 2 stroke motor I just put $20 in diesel at the walmart pump yes it was diesel. We'll everyone said it was my pump timing I had it sent too Hendrix diesel and he said well your timing is fine it is at 16* well what do i do is my pump blown? I smelt gas when I changed fuel filter and even the shop said it spelt like gas ! Will gas make it do all this I have ran it for about a hour with five gallons of diesel and it still sputters and carrys on please help

You can verify the fuel contamination by trying to run the engine from a temporary supply tank.

I've heard that the old cummins are actually fairly tolerant to accidentally being run on gas, this is from a guy who had a fleet of cube vans with ignorant drivers who always filled up at the wrong pumps.

My first guess would have been the timing as well, but with that eliminated, check to see if your coolant level has dropped... if it's sucking coolant into the cylinder, that would certainly be something that would cause the white smoke... You can also crack the oil drain plug and make sure there's no coolant down there, if there is, DON'T run it, you'll take the bearings out.

If you aren't leaking coolant anywhere... I'd do as DieselIQ suggested and make sure you're running 100% diesel in it

Oh, and get back to that walmart and get a sample of that diesel!
