Default 2004 Ford Excursion 6.0 diesel won't start

Replaced EGR Valve about three months ago seemed to running fine. Had cold snap and noticed vehicle would not start unless plugged in. If started cold would not run over 15-20 mph until it was warm then would run fine. Plugging it in no matter how cold seemed to help. Warm weather got here and issue seem to resolve but I wondered if I had a glo plug problem. About a week ago I was at a rodeo and went to leave and it would crank but not kick off and run. I let it set awhile and went back and it started fine. No real trouble until this morning and my daughter had a hard time starting it but it did fire up. I got my family loaded and we headed down the hwy for a family forth of July and stopped for fuel. It will now not start. It will crank but not fire up. This is mainly my wife's vehicle and she drives kids around everywhere daily and sometimes several times a day but it has not been treated to hard driving. The engine has 216,000 miles on it. We are sitting here, got fuel in the fuel filter, but no run. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just want to say thank you to Farmer for the reply. We pulled in home and I looked at it today and will only admit this because it may help someone else but I had only been changing ONE fuel filter for years and thousands and thousands of miles. In ignorance the other one has NEVER been changed. A buddy told me about it and told me they should come in pairs. Changed it, cleaned everything out and it fired right up like it was brand new! Hoping I have not ruined the fuel injection system with all the trash...live and learn. Thanks again Farmer. And hope someone can learn from my ignorance!

You can buy the fuel filter kit from ford and you get both....maybe get the brass drain from international also that replaces the plug on the lower filter housing.it allows you to drain it with out any special tools.
