Default Cummins died while driving won't start

So I was driving home yesterday from a 40 mile round trip about 2 miles from home she just quit. Like I turned the key off, pulled over, verified that the fuel shut off solenoid was in fact working. Put 5gal of diesel in even though it wasn't the symptom of out of fuel prob (I.e. no chugging) new battery, (needed one anyway) now she cranks but won't go. Tried pull starting it to no avail. Crank position sensor is working as well, had that prob before too. I noticed that it was slightly surging at 2500 rpm on the way home boost would run and down 5 psi you could barely hear rpm differences. I'm curious that with my lack of fuel plate, afc screw cranked, and two clicks on the gov springs could something have gone wrong with my pump?

Have you checked fuel pressure?

No I have not, I didn't have time to mess with it last night, that was next on my list. I have a gauge is there anywhere handy with 1/8 npt that I could thread it into?

I normally check it at the IP. You may have to tie in the line with an adaptor. Or you can remove the inlet banjo bolt and drill and tap it to your npt fitting.
