Default 03 Ford 6.0 No start

OK, I have an early '03 F250 Crewcab 4x4 Automatic with a 6.0. It has an Edge programmer that I normally run on 3, 4" MBRP exhaust, and a 4" lift with 35's. Otherwise it is stock.

I just had a HP oil leak this last March and replaced the HPOP, IPR valve, ICP sensor and all o-rings on the injectors including oil rail. The truck has run better than ever. I have only put about 3k miles on it since then. When I towed my toyhauler it did great.

About a month ago I noticed a very slight hesitation in the idle, but it didn't even show on the factory tach so I didn't think anything of it. A week later it didn't start after a long crank in the parking lot of Lowes. I waited a minute and tried it again and it started right up and drove fine. A few days after that on the first colder day here (40 degrees) I tried to start it and it just cranked and cranked. I have been super busy so I haven't had a lot of time to work on it. I plugged in my scan gauge II and showed no codes. When I crank it over the ICP is only showing 20-35psi. I thought maybe the IPR was sticking so I put in a new one. When I pulled the old one the screen was pushed in and torn. I figure that was the problem and put the new one in. No change. I am a bit frustrated after such a big tear down only 3k miles ago and now it's down again. The parts I put in then were all International parts and like I said it has run great up until now? I notice the factory oil pressure gauge doesn't move while cranking. Should it? Where can I find out the low oil pressure. I'm not sure I have LOP for the HPOP to pump, but I also figure that would have put up a code or two.

Any ideas??

When you crank are you getting any smoke out the exhaust? My guess is no...

The LPOP is behind the front cover. When you're cranking you should definitely see the oil pressure gauge come up, however it takes probably 5-7 seconds for it to move. If it doesn't move at all, that could very well be your problem. The truck needs 525psi of high pressure oil for the PCM to even say "go".

Pull the oil filter cap off the remove the filter and put just the flter back in without the cap, hold the filter down and have someone crank over, it should fill with oil, i it doesn't then either the pump bypass is stuck or the low-pressure oil is shot. The low pressure pump is not that expensive and can be changed in a day.

Well, I have LOP, or at least the housing fills up nicely. Any chances it's not the HPOP?

One thing to keep in mind in the future is that you don't always have to buy a new IPR, you canget a new screen and orings for it alot less expensive.
It could just be a leak, either the oring on top of the pump that seats in the pump cover or one of the oil lines to the oil rails. I would do a air pressure test first to see what is going on.

My question about a leak is to only have 20-30psi it would have to be an open ended pipe almost. If that is so, why would it have not started a few days earlier, then started and ran fine until a few days later when it quit completely.

I'm just trying to rule out everything besides the HPOP. On my early 03 you have to pull the full intake to get it out. I'm hoping that if I do have to go that far, International would warranty it, since it only has 3000 miles on it and it is only 9 months old.

IPR could be stuck open even... I'd start with pulling that. If it's filled with metal shavings it's likely the HPOP.

Well, I changed the filter and cap to the correct parts, installed the new battery and charged the other one, and changed the oil while I was there. My ICP climbed from 20psi to 65psi. Obviously still way short of starting, but it still went up. Just not sure why. The correct oil filter/cap was longer so I was hoping. I went back and looked at the IPR that I took out and inspected the trashed screen. It looks more like the plastic piece going across the screen got pinched and pushed the screen in. There was no debris in the IPR other that the screen. When I changed the oil, the pan bolt is magnetic, but there wasn't anything stuck to it. I'm still not sure what is going on. I have some time this weekend, so I will deadhead the IPR and check the pump. I talked with manager of the International fuel shop that sold me the HPOP. He said he has sold 73 of those pumps this year and not one of them has failed. He also said if one in a hundred goes he is due. . He did say if I deadhead the pump and ICP doesn't shoot up they will definitely warranty the pump. I just don't want to do all of that labor again and buy gaskets if that isn't it. I guess I will find out this weekend. If you have any other ideas, I am open to suggestions.

Thanks for all of the responses so far!
