Default Pulley squeaking and its driving me crazy!

I have a pulley squeaking on my 98 dodge 24v and I'm having trouble pinpointing which one it is. Is there a trick or tip to find it? The squeaking started a couple days ago and has progressively got worse.

Try removing the belt and turning all the pulleys by hand. One may feel rough, or growl while you spin it.

How old is your belt?

I put a new one on in June, I will pull the belt and check the pulleys individually.

Is the squeaking consistent, or intermittent? If it is intermittent it may be the A/C compressor. You can try turning the A/C on and off, and listen for a change in the sound. If not, you could try a mechanics stethoscope to listen to the pulleys.

It is intermittent, when I turn on the ac the squeak gets louder and the frequency of the squeak increases, if it is the ac compressor could I just re-route the belt around the compressor?

You may be able to, but it would require a different belt.

I see well I hate the squeak so I wonder if that could be a temporary fix until I have the funds to replace the compressor. Thank you for your help RAW

No problem. If you are able to by pass the A/C compressor, please let us know what belt you use. If could help other out in the future.

You might be able to get a bracket with an idler pully to go in place of the compressor, they're usually 20-30 bucks.
