A little about me:
Hello to my new friends! My name is Phillip Strahin, and I have lived in Richmond, Texas for the past 15 years or so. Prior to that I lived in Bethany, Oklahoma for 34 years, so I do not move around too much, or have not since my younger years. I currently work as an instrumentation specialist in nuclear electrical generating stations across the United States, but I have had many different jobs and careers during my lifetime. Among these jobs was five years as a road driver for Motor Cargo, Inc. of Akron, Ohio, later absorbed by Consolidated Freightways. This was my first exposure to the care and feeding of diesel engines. During those years in the late 1950's trucks were just entering the technical age. As an example, most trucks were still gasoline powered, and those that were diesel powered were largely normally aspirated. The turbocharger and all the benefits that this innovation brought with it was firmly established in the trucking fleet, but it was probably mostly with the larger companies. I remember that it certainly was a treat to drive a turbo after setting behind the wheel of a normally aspirated Mack!
I have 2 diesel vehicles now, and both are considerably different. I have a 1995 Ford F350 Powerstroke crew cab dually, and a Volkswagen Passat wagon turbo diesel. It looks like I am out of room here so I guess I better quit writing!
