Default Colorado Cummins

Joined the site because of all the guys on here that know alot more about diesel pickups than I do. I have a 1998.5 dodge 2500. I drive the truck around 1000 miles a week. I work for a pipeline company and right now my daily commute is 180 miles, 6 days a week and on sundays I'm usually doing some kind of work on it or just scratching my head....truck has 242,000 on it and runs like the day I bought it.

Cant help but wonder how much longer this truck can keep up. I change my oil every 4,000 with schaffers synthetic blend, change my fuel filters and other fluids regularly and dont hot rod my truck or anything but how many miles should I go before I put in a fresh engine?

If the motor is well taken care of,it can last quite a while. I read of motors with over a million miles on them.

Schultz, just keep doing what you're doing and the truck will probably outlast you. I would not hesitate to double that oil change interval.

Welcome to DB. If you are changing it at 4k, you're good. I wouldnt worry about changing it any more often but i wouldnt go any longer than that either. Since you put your year as 98.5 Im guessing you have a 24v. If you do and you havent replaced your lift pump, I would recommend that. You dont have to worry about replacing your engine. Sounds like you take excellent care of it. Cummins can hit 500K-750K without breaking a sweat aslong as they are taken care of.
