TurboDiesel here...
Hey, so, I'm a newbie to this site... From what little I've read in the forums and seen so far, this site really does look like "the bomb"! Lot's of great info and such in here, with a lot of common folks. My kinda site. I'll be honest though, I'm sure I won't get on here all that often, since I always seem to be too damned busy. LOL!
About me? Well, I'm a 36y/o mechanic. I grew up a farmboy in Upstate NY on a fruit and beef cattle farm. A lack of communication between my Pop and I led to me going a different route after college. (A HUGE mistake, of sorts... as I really miss farming bad, and Pop has since passed on.)
So, I've turned wrenches now for many years, as they seem to slip by faster and faster as the days go by. I've worked on Agricultural Equipment, Heavy Duty Trucks (tractor-trailers, semis, rigs, or whatever you wanna call 'em), Autos and Pickups, Small Engines - (Lawn & Garden Tractors, Atv's, Snowmobiles, Dirtbikes, etc.), and as of recent I'm working as a golf & turf mechanic at a very respectable & high end private golf course / housing development. Of course with that comes a pittily compensation package, as the wealthy sure don't stay wealthy by paying their help accordingly!
Anyhow... I've somehow managed to have owned many different Dodge Ram 2500HD trucks over the years. I still own some of them, and currently I have 4! (Yeah, I know that's about 3 too many - LOL!)
As of right now I own the following Ram trucks:
1.) 1999 Dodge Ram 2500HD SLT Laramie, 4x4, Automatic, quad cab, 8ft bed, fully loaded - leather, etc., 24V Cummins Turbo Diesel - sitting on LT285/75R-16's. Has been totally upgraded to all 2000 parts in the powertrain, including the engine, trans, transfercase, and driveshafts. Why? It's a long story, but basically, the f'ing truck had the dreaded "53" block and it was cracked. I got "screwed" over royally by the guy I bought it from. Anyhow, I obatined a 2000 and transplanted everything from it into my 1999. The thing is an awesome truck and I'd like to keep it. Not to mention, I have a lot more money (and time) into it than that. NO rust or rot, NO problems. Not modded or turned up. A RARE unmolested stock truck.
2.) 1997 Dodge Ram 2500HD SLT, 4x4, 5spd, reg cab, 8ft bed, semi-loaded, V-10 gasser - sitting on aluminum alloy Mickey Thompson wheels wrapped with ProComp MT's size LT285/75R-16's for winter and ARE aluminum wheels wrapped with 35x12.50-16.5's for summer time. (A quick side note, this truck is really a 3500HD SRW truck. Has the Dana 80 rear axle in her from the factory. Dodge never "officially" badged any of it's SRW Gen II trucks as 3500's, only the DRW trucks got the 1-ton 3500 badging. This alone makes my 1997 V-10 truck extra unique!)
I have a 2001 CTD 5.9L 24V H.O. engine that's slated to be put into my 1997 V-10 truck one of these days. Not sure when the heck I'm going to actually do it, as it's going to be a major undertaking. Fortunately, I have a parted out 2000 Ram diesel that can donate some of the odd and more difficult to obtain parts such as wire harnesses, different (newer style) dashboard, gauge cluster, and such.
Why you ask? Because I can. (And because my 1997 Ram is mint with only 72,000 original miles on it - so to me, it deserves a diesel upgrade.)
3.) 1995 Dodge Ram 2500HD SLT, 4x4, 5spd, reg cab, 8ft bed, semi-loaded, 5.9L V-8 Magnum gasser, aftermarket suspension lift kit (brain fart, can't remember the lift kit's brand right now), nice aluminum ARE wheels wrapped with big 'ol 38.5x14.50-16.5 Super Swamper rubber. And ironically, NO, it has not been mudded with.
4.) 1995 Dodge Ram 2500HD SLT, 4x4, Automatic, reg cab, 8ft bed, semi-loaded, 5.9L V-8 Magnum gasser. She's my worn-out, beat-up, rusty-*** 'ol work truck with Western Uni-Mount 8ft Pro plow. Sit's on stock chromies, with pretty worn LT285/75R-16's.
I have a lot of other stuff as well, but I'm not getting into all that. As for other diesels that I currently own, I have a 1968 Case 580CK backhoe, a 1972 Ford 8000 row-crop w/Hiniker cab, and a 1982 Massey Ferguson 285 with a quick-tach MF 246 loader.
It's likely I'll "win" because as the sayin' goes, He who has the most toys when he dies, wins... BUT, ya know what really sucks is that I'm still gonna be dead, so what good is that?
Ironically, I'm basically broke as hell. Just a typical middle class guy, just scraping to get by.
LOL - ain't life a bitch?!
But enough about me... let's see what all this site has to offer!
