Default New in WA, Powerstroke or Cummins?

I'm about to either trade my dirtbike and street bike or sell them to put towards a truck, and cant make up my mind on powerstroke or cummins. I had a 97 Dodge ram 1500, loved it but hated the gas mileage, and my dad ended up trading it in without telling me for a new truck.

So... my question, what is more reliable, but can get some good power and still get decent fuel mileage? I'm looking to get a 99 and up Powerstroke, or a 98.5 and up 24v cummins. My dad had a 03 6.0 powerstroke and I loved it, but I like the body style and sound of a cummins more. Tell me your thoughts guys. Thanks

to DB!

If you like a Cummins better then there is your answer. A 7.3 PSD is a good choice as well. I am not a fan of 6.0s but with some mods you can get them to be pretty reliable. Of course I would get a Cummins myself but the choice is yours.

Love my 6.4 and with just tune, exhaust, and intake it runs like a bat outa hell and pulls like a sumbitch. My my friends I haul hay and tractors with cant keep up in the hills or once we get rolling. I think my friends cummins comes out of the hole better with a load though. But I wont get rid of my 6.4 for any truck out there to date.

I definitely love cummins, and really enjoy driving my buddies 99 24v, which is so much better than the 12v interior, I hated the cup holders up top... pointless. My dad's 6.0 must have been built on a good day, we didnt have a single problem with it at all, bought it brand new and drove it till 160k like he stole it. Chip, lift, 38's, and still did fine. Loved that turbo whistle too.

I would go for something newer like a 6.4 but I cant afford it, i'm lookin at around 9-10k for a truck. I know I'm a ford boy but Cummins seems to have me leaning that way haha

I actually found a guy with a 99 Straight cab powerstroke 6-speed with 195k, hes willing to trade for my dirtbike and street bike. If it works out, It would be like getting the truck for 4,100 haha
