Default Potential Truck (LB7)

Ok, my father owns a used car dealership, and a 2002 with the extended cab, SRW 4x4 and green in color, is coming in for a great price. The truck has 180k on it, but its clean and runs well. What types of things should I look out for that could be in my near future and could be pricey. Mind you, since my dad has a shop, parts, and labor are cheap. Im on the fence between this truck and a 1998 toyota tacoma. Obviously I want the chevy, but I know that the yota will be problem free up to around 200k and it has 100k now. (the 2 trucks are within $2500 of each other) I know deep down that I should just sack up and get the chevy, because I need something to tow my samurai

Maybe this should be in a different section, but its pretty noob-ish
so I'll just leave it here

Same reply I put on Jeepin.com...

Get the Chevy. How do you Know the Taco will be good to 200k? PO could have abbused the hell out of it... Same with the Chevy. I would snag the Max and change ALL the fluids on it. It's at your dads lot so you have plenty of time to pick it apart and look it over.

if you look into the dmax section there is some good info but I just picked up an 03 with 100k on it and so far it is the best truck I have ever driven. I say go for the dmax and as for injectors I believe someone mentioned a 7yr 200k warranty on them but I think it was between 1,000 to like 1,200 for the injectors and well if its just a tow rig and not a puller or anything you really shouldnt have to worry about the front end. hope that was some help.

I would get the Dmax, since it is an 02 (LB7) it has 200k on the injectors so you have a few miles yet to go before you have to worry. I really would not worry about any inherent problems coming up. IMO that engine was the best one, until the LMM.

As far as things that may be pricey in the future. Suncoast Tranny, 6-8 inch lift kit, EFI live or PPE, MBRP Cool Dual exhaust. Bigger fuel tank (oh wait it is a short bed scratch that). Wheels, tires.

These things will last a million miles, so why buy something that you know is only going to last 200k (Toyota).

Good luck and Welcome Aboard.

Thanks guys. Im most definately going to get it if it infact comes in. Then I will disclose the price

Its just gonna tow my samurai, and be a DD thats it.

And I really wanna do some mods asap. What do ya'll think of stacks, when I was thinking about cummins and PSD's I thought about stacks, but they just dont seem to go good on the chebby.

I definately want to uncork the exhaust in the mean time and eventually do a PPE and gauges.
