Default other side a' pond

Hello all , shirker in the UK here, just signed up. Currently running a couple of LandRover Discovery Mk1s with the 300tdi 2.5 lt units in . I know that this is small change to most of you guys....I married a girl from NY and lived in the US for a few years late 80s,early 90s and my brother in law had a pickup with something like an 8 lt in it.

I grew up around trucking, haulage and farming so have been around diesels most of my life and just about the only thing I have learned in that time was how much more there is to know ! I worked for some time on fleet maintenance on vehicle up to 20 odd tonnes laden weight but even then most of the engines didnt go much over 8 litres.

Ran my own 7.5 ton box vans (what we would call "lorries") for some years with engines in the 300 to 500 cubic inch range ,ish. Got out of that due to health issues and the ludicrous euro regulations that cripple the small businessman in this country. Still farming in a small way and running some little tractors, a couple of Fergusons that my dad has had from new (1949 and 52) and a tiny 3cyl chinese Siromer that is surprisingly good for what it is. Still got a couple of 7.5 ton Ford D series lorries sitting waiting for me to rebuild something from the pile of dead engines,4 and 6 cyl.

But,right now I am running the above mentioned Disco's with the stock turbo/intercooler and blanked off EGR.Both the ones on the road have the Bosch EDC fly by wire systems and auto transmissions. I have another one currently off the road with the engine in bits thats a manual with the manual IP. I am currently installing auxillery batteries on split charge and fueling with SVO and WVO and diesel blends. Hence I am looking at some part time water injection as a cure for ring-gumming from polymerised oil.

I have already seen a load of stuff on here that interests me,like the heating of fuel systems for use with VOs.Over here people are not into heating the IP and injeector lines,or the injector come to that.SO....I am negotiating with a manufacturer to get some 12v stuff built, but would love to hear what you guys use.

Well, thats me, Im off now to nail a roof down on the barn...........

We generally call semi's "artics" as in articulated lorry, but the lorry part ? I really have no idea ! Its worrying me now , I going to have to find out !

found this for starters........

"A truck, a long, flat wagon," 1838, British railroad word, probably from verb lurry "to pull, tug," of uncertain origin. Meaning "large motor vehicle for carrying goods" is first attested 1911.

Howdy! Welcome to Diesel Bombers! Enjoy the Site!

I've always wondered where the word "schooch" (as in schooch over) comes from. Any ideas?
