New to diesel and in the market
My '99 1/2 ton Suburban just gave up the ghost towing our travel trailer. Got two kids in college, so was planning to buy a 3/4 ton diesel in a couple years but that schedule has now been accelerated. My requirements are broad - extended or crew cab, 3/4 ton, 4x4, diesel pick-up w/AC. Not married to brand, type of tranny, cab config (other than a little extra space to recline seat), etc.
Been driving 1/2 ton Chevy's (extended cab and Suburban) for the last 10 years. Drove a Peterbuilt back in my college days, during summers and when I needed extra living $$$$, but know nothing about diesel pick ups.
Will be used to pull a 4.5k travel trailer around the West Coast and Rockies, and also a small fishing boat. Willing to spend up to $30k and my thinking is simpler the better. That seems to point me towards a Dodge from what I've read. Have driven both an '06 Dodge and an '07 Chevy Duramax. Completely different driving vehicles. Also, Fords seem to be plentiful and a less expensive in my neck of the woods.
Any thoughts, direction, observations, comments, etc would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
