I know you too [laugh] your the other VW/Cummins guy I got my mother a 2001 Wolfsburg Jetta 1.8T. And i have a wabbit engine/trans in the shed, trying to pick up an old school golf diesel for a daily driver ( MKII).

Sweet! Make sure you run synthetic in that 1.8T. They have a problem with sludge, which is usually caused by lack of maintenance. 5k oil change intervals are the max you want to run on that thing as well. There also may be an open recall on the brake light switch. If ya want PM me the vin I can run it on monday for ya.

Recall taken care of, My buddy works at the VW/Audi dealer here , so it gets WELL taken care of.

Only issue i have right now is a P1296 ( I think , can't remember now) It's a cooling system malfunction, gotten the code twice now, car does seem to take a long time to heat up , but I have never heard of someone having to replace a T stat in one, my buddy has been at the shop for 4 years and never seen one done. Any guesses on that?

Thermostat are becoming a problem with these V-dubs as of late. Replace the T-stat and the coolant temp sensor (green one) and problem solved.
