Default Coming Soon To A Sled Pull Near You!!

hello there fellow diesel heads!!

My name is rich and i recently capitalized on a 1995 cummins 12v 5.9 with the holy grail p7100 fuel pump from a random guy on ebay that happily sold the complete engine to me for $2000.. While driving the engine home (strapped to the trailer), i couldn't help but smile and wave when all the other diesel heads were looking my way.

Anyhow, i have an '88 dodge ram 15 passenger van that i have a dire need to squeeze this engine into, fortify, and pull sleds hopefully in the super street class.. I also would like to have it run on biodiesel/svo blends and while not competing, have it be my daily driver.

One last twist to the plot is that although i have less than ample knowledge about this cummins engine, i have absolutely no experience in engine building/rebuilding.. I'd rather spend another $20,000 and build this beast than to buy another car and have it depreciate in shame..

My shout out to all is that i need help on where to start the process to my goal of 1200rwhp/2000+lb/ft.. Currently, i'm cleaning the engine for teardown and block/head machining.. Your help will be greatly appreciated and when you see this at the show, you can pat yourself on the back and have bragging rights when you see your name on the list of engine developers.

I will post photos of the engine and donor vehicle shortly after my first response.. Thank you for your time in reading and we'll see you soon at the 'pull!!

wow sounds like a cool project..... it's gotta have sidepipes..... big chrome ones...... i know it's gonna take a ton of money to make that power.... but what advice i can give you is get with one of the big pump re-manufactures like BlueChip (one of our vendors) or Industrial Injection or Schides (sp) or PDR or Peirs and get a nice pump. that'll net you the most power available on tap...... that 95 has a 160hp pump. you can try to get a 215 pump from the 96-98 5 speed trucks and get that one "tweeked"..... also look into twins, a nice intercooler..... man the list goes on and on..... but anywho

can't wait on pics of the project....

Sounds like that will be a fun project. It might not be as practical for a daily driver, but I say mid mount the Cummins about where the second row of seats would be, build a doghouse around it, snorkels for air, and stacks right through the roof.
Might sound off the wall, but after having done a few small block engine swaps in an older Dodge van, I can tell you it's NOT fun to work on them when you need room.
As for building that kind of power, you already know it doesn't come cheap, but you came to the right place to find what you need to know. Keep us posted on how things go. Definitely post pics.

Welcome!

Yeah, I think real estate is going to be your biggest problem The Cummins is LONG and the engine cover in teh cab may need some rework. Also, mounting a single turbo should be fine, but twins will be pretty tight in that engine compartment. Should be pretty cool to get done though. Post pics and keep updating them as the project continues.
