Default Newbie with no truck.. yet.

I've been snooping around the website for the last few weeks as I start researching my next truck.

A little background:
26 years old
Awaiting army basic training in Feb.
Former owner of a 2001 Cobra and current owner of a 95' Bronco.

I've been dreaming of dropping a diesel into the bronco for almost a year now, but with the extra work needed for that, I have given up hope and am looking for the right diesel for me. I don't plan on purchasing until after I'm out of Basic and maybe AIT (dependent on funds). This is just information gathering.

My problem lies in that I don't like the looks of any dodge pickup, but like their engines. I like the looks of the fords, but want the most out of the whatever i buy (mileage, "power", dependability). I haven't seen anything to sell me on the duramax yet and don't really like the idea of another split front axle truck (the bronco has the TTB setup).

The reason I started looking at diesels is for the do-anything/go-anywhere aspect. I'd like to have the freedom to run on different forms of fuel. And the mileage can't be beat by gassers like my 351W...

It's always a trade-off no matter what you do. Even if you choose the best of both worlds: 12V Cummins in a Ford.

yeah, I had figured that'd be the case. I was just hoping for some kind of wisdom in the coming months that would help guide my decision making. This is the most time I've given myself to research a vehicle. The longest I had spent previous to this was 3 months and it still didn't work out as well as I had hoped.

Stick around long enough and you will have all the info you need to make a very informed decision!
