2005 Ford F-550 6.0L PSD
Greetings to all! I've been following this and other forums for a little while but I bought my 2005 Ford F-550 6.0L PowerStroke Diesel back in December 2007. It's got 57,500 miles and 1,440 hours on the clock now.
I had to change out the #1 and #7 injectors just before Memorial Day this year and wouldn't you know it - just over 1-1/2 months out of the 5-year/100,000-mile warranty! Mostly that is my fault of course as I had a suspicion that something was up due to low power from stops but no smoke (white or black) and reduced fuel economy...it's always best to make the time to address problems or at least identify problems rather than let them fester. In any case, the lesson - while expensive ($1,600 for labor and injectors) got me started on the modifications that I hope to allow me many more trouble-free miles on my family's dream ride!
I replaced the stock intercooler and boost tubes with an all aluminum (and welded) intercooler with larger boost tubes and a smoother air intake elbow, I have a new air filter (although after following many posts I recognize that I won't likely get any better protection or performance compared to the stock filter...it is easier to service and provides a better fit for the larger boost tubes to the CAC). I added a pyrometer to the exhaust manifold and monitor EOT/ECT, EGT, Transmission temperature, and boost. I have a speed brake too. I haven't installed the 4" exhaust yet although that is in the garage. After all of these modifications I learned the least expensive was likely the first I needed! I'm waiting for my coolant filter which should arrive today (15 June) along with an electronic turbo lifesaver to cool the turbo down after the ignition is turned off. I'm also due to get an oil bypass filter tomorrow (16 June).
Fortunately, I'm still able to travel with all of the "work" I've taken on with the truck. This weekend I'm heading to Gulf Shores park in Alabama (yes, even with the oil slick). I hope to have all the work done in time for my big trip to Colorado in September (I'm going to be out of the country in August so the clock is a tickin').
I'm glad I found this site and look forward to sharing with all of you!
