1984 6.2- First Time Rebuild
I am a young man who bought my first vehicle a year ago. It was a 1984 6.2 Chevy Silverado. I bought it from an older gentleman, and it was pristine! It has a Banks Sidewinder turbo, and a GearVenders overdrive. About 9 months later, I was driving home from the University I attend when my baby Elanore started acting sluggish. I pulled over, and what do I see? Oil. Everywhere. I ended up having it towed home. After running a cylinder pressure test, I determined that the 5th and 7th cylinders had no pressure. Weeks later, and with the engine out of the vehicle, I found my problem. Holes burned in the pistons. This, I later found out, happened because I rode the turbo a little too hard. Well, that was a year ago. Since then, I have been rebuilding my engine. Since I am currently a college student without a job, the constraints of money and time are both against me. I am now in the final stage of rebuilding my engine-- It is now installed in the engine compartment. It is all thanks to my original shop manual, Haynes and my father-- Who despite his lack of knowledge in the specific area of diesels, has an exquisite knowledge of cars in general. Well, that's my story. I hope to have my lovely Elanore back up and running soon.
