Default My first diesel!...excited!

Hey all!...wanted to say hi and how excited I am about getting my first BIG diesel...I'm not talking F350, Chevy HD or a Cummins diesel here...I'm talking 37,000lbs of pure muscle!...It's not a Semi truck or Dad's truck...it's a 1979 International Harvester DT466 model 1854 dump truck with a flatbed...my truck will be big enough to haul any Dodge, Ford or Chevy truck...I got nothing against the big three, I just wanted a truck that was outside the box...I am still making the truck picture worthy at this time...it's been used, abused and put away wet and left to die...I just couldn't pass up a 466cubic inch turbo diesel for the price...it has a 5spd box with a 2spd rear end and A/C...the wheel base is 179" of pure hauling muscle...the truck came with a dump bed but that will be going away soon, actually I am removing it one piece at a time cuz it is so big...my plan is to install a 14' flat bed with a headache rack and a winch...I will have 2 side options built, one for hauling material and one for everyday use(stake sides)...the winch will be used so I can tilt the bed enough to haul cars or trucks or just to load heavy objects...I can carry 100 gallons of fuel and might consider using one of the tanks for a Veggie conversion...other plans will include a muffler removal to a straight pipe conversion...this particular truck has hydraulic brakes, no air brakes, even though I have a CDL to drive it...I live in New Mexico and help build and install Septic tanks for a living...I like and enjoy what I do very much...I hope to see other big trucks on here as I can see a huge surplus of large trucks in the market that need a new owner...I also look forward to many more interesting new posts.

Thanks for reading

Thanks for all the reply guys...I feel very welcome here...I started my truck today as it has been sitting for several months...had to push start cuz the batteries are dead...new ones soon to come...the truck runs very good...I went to shut it down after 15 minutes of driving it around the yard and discovered the key does not do anything...I found a pull lever that is used to kill the engine when you want it off...the cable is a little stiff but I will give it some lube and start my journey on a long list of things to fix...I will share that the truck was very easy to drive and it felt good to be up that high

As for pictures it might be a while before I do any up loading...I want to get a head start on some of my work so I will have a lot to post later on...I will also start a thread rebuild on bringing my truck into the modern era and make the interior a little more luxury and comfy like the newer model trucks have...I do see that there could be a lot of interested people who want to follow my build which is cool.

I dig your smiles...those are the best I've seen.

Thanks for the kind intro and hope to see you all later on my build thread...I do tend to have a lot of wording up front to explain my build, then picture will follow, a lot of pictures.

Thanks
