Default Noob in Oklahoma

I'm Russell. I'm in Oklahoma. I own an 03 VW TDI 1.9L diesel. 46 mpg on the interstate stock aint bad. I've heard rumors of up to 60 mpg highway with some engine and computer mods but thats a different topic for a different thread. I also have a L3400 Kubota tractor, front end loader and all the 3 point goodies. It's a black smoke makin beast, good for knocking stuff over, digging up, covering up, and tearing stuff up. I use a half ton gas tow rig for it that is just begging to be junked for a diesel 3/4 ton replacement.
I have a large wife, 2 kids and a lazy dog. Average life in southern Oklahoma.
I live by the code "if it aint broke, fix it till it is."

Is your VW a stick or an auto? 60 mpg is on the high end of what's achievable, but 50 is easily attainable with a tune.

Welcome to DB. What speed was your 46 mpg hwy achieved? I have an 06 TDI jetta and average about the same hwy if I'm doing 70-80mph. On a drive from CA to WY, I managed 700 miles to the tank = 53 mpg, but average speed was closer to 65mph. No mods. I lived in OKC for 3 years btw.

The VW is bone stock and I got 46mpg on the HE Bailey turnpike at about 80 mph. In town it gets closer to 35 mpg if youre nice to it. Oklahoma is flatter than a dinner plate so hills and valleys arent steep enough to affect my mileage greatly. Its an auto tranny. Really wishing it was a stick. Its amazing how a 100 hp turbo diesel can hang with a 200 hp gas engine and get twice the mileage and im luvin it.
